Dental Cleanings

Most dental visits are cleanings. Regular cleanings (ideally every six months) will help your teeth stay cleaner, last longer and can prevent painful problems from developing.

Using special instruments, a dental hygienist will clean below the gumline, removing built-up plaque and tartar that can cause gum disease, cavities, bad breath and other problems. The cleaning concludes with a thorough polish and flossing.

Dr. LeBeau will also perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, looking for signs of disease or other problems. His goal is to help maintain your oral health by identifying and treating any problems before they progress, or by treating and fixing problems that already may be present.

Depending on your age, risk of disease and symptoms, we may recommend X-rays. X-rays can help diagnose problems otherwise unnoticed such as bone loss around teeth, impacted teeth, abscesses, cysts or tumors, and decay between the teeth.

If your teeth and gums are in good health, you probably won’t need to return for three to six months. If further treatment is required — to fill a cavity, remove a tooth, repair a broken crown, etc. — it is best to schedule an appointment before leaving the office.
